Why is the fuse wire fitted in a porcelain casing?

Solution:

Porcelain is an insulator. Therefore, the fuse wire is fitted in a porcelain casing.

The fuse is made out of a porcelain base with two metal contacts attached to it. These metal contacts connect the incoming and outgoing phase wires. The fuse element or fuse wire is held in a porcelain fuse carrier. For connecting a load side circuit to a source side circuit, this porcelain fuse carrier is put into the porcelain base. The main benefit of this type of fuse is that the fuse carrier can be withdrawn from the fuse base without coming into touch with the circuit’s live parts.
