What makes a glass different from a solid such as quartz? Under what conditions could quartz be converted into glass?

The arrangement of the constituent particles makes a glass different from a solid such as quartz. The constituent particles in glass are of a short-range order, but the constituent particles of quartz are having long range orders. Quartz can be converted into glass by heating it and then rapidly cooling it.
