What are sacred groves and their role in biodiversity conservation?

The sacred groves are found on the hills of Kasi and Jaintia in Meghalaya, on the hills of Aravalli in Rajasthan, the Western Ghats in the Karnataka region and in Maharashtra and Sarguja among many others. It is a type of in-situ preservation where plants are kept in the sacred groves of Meghalaya.
