THEORY SYLLABUS OF UP BOARD CLASS 10
The Maths syllabus comprises seven units which hold a total of 70 marks.
UNIT
NAME OF UNIT
TOPICS
1
Number Systems
· Euclid division algorithm · Fundamental theorem of arithmetic with example · Verification of irrational numbers · Representation of rational numbers in terms of consecutive non-recurring decimals
2
Algebra
· Polynomial numbers – polynomial numbers, relation of coefficients and zeroes of quadratic polynomials, statement of division algorithm for polynomials with real coefficients and general questions on it · Pair of linear equations with two variables – pair of linear equations in two variables, solution of linear equations by graphical method, algebraic method of solving a linear equation – replacement method, deletion method and cross multiplication method, reversible equations in pair of linear equations of two variables · Quadratic Equation – standard quadratic equation a+bx+c=0, (a ≠0), solve the quadratic equation by making it a perfect square by the quadratic formulas, relationship between discriminant of quadratic equation and the nature of its roots, day-to-day use of quadratic equations and questions based on them · Arithmetic Progression – derivation of nth series of arithmetic progression and sum of its first n terms, use of A.P. in solving problems related to real life
3
Co-ordinate Geometry
· Concept of co-ordinate geometry · Graphs of linear equations · Distance formula · Section formula · Area of a triangle
4
Geometry
· Triangles – definition and examples of congruent triangles: – a line drawn parallel to one side of a triangle divides the remaining two sides in equal proportions – the line dividing two sides of a triangle in equal proportions is parallel to the third side – triangles are congruent if a pair of corresponding sides in two triangles is proportional, and the angles subtended is equal – triangles are congruent if the pair of adjacent angles is equal, and the adjacent sides are proportional – triangles are congruent if one angle of one triangle is equal to the corresponding angle of the other triangle and their corresponding sides are proportional – if a perpendicular is placed on the hypotenuse from the vertex of the right triangle, then the triangles on either side of the perpendicular line are mutual and identical to the original triangle – the ratio of area of congruent triangles is proportional to the squares of the corresponding sides – in a right-angled triangle, the square of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides – in a triangle, if the square of one side is equal to the sum of the squares of the other two sides, then the angle opposite the first side, is a right angle · Circles – Tangent line and tangent point of Circle – the tangent line of the circle will be perpendicular to the radius passing through the tangent point – two tangents drawn from an external point are equal in length · Construction – divide the given line segment in the given ratio (internal) – drawing a tangent from a point given outside the circle – construction of a triangle congruent to a given triangle
5
Trigonometry
· Introduction to trigonometry – trigonometric ratios of acute angles of right triangle – trigonometric ratios of 0o and 90o – trigonometric ratio values (30o, 45o, 60o, 0o and 90o) and the relationships between them · Trigonometric Identities – establishing trigonometric identities and its application (sin2Ɵ + cos2Ɵ = 1) – trigonometric ratios of complementary angles · Height & Distance – elevation angle – depression angle – basic questions on height and distance – elevation and depression angle should only be 30o, 45o and 60o
6
Mensuration
· Area of Circle – area of circle – sector of circle and area of segment – area of the combination of the above plane figures (questions will be for 60o, 90o and 120o angles only) · Surface area and Volume – surface area and volume of the plane shapes connected by any two of the following: cube, cuboid, sphere, hemisphere, ellipse, cylinder, cone and tapered cone – questions related to conversion of one kind of solid shape into another and other similar questions
