This article will provide the students with detailed information on UP Board Chemistry Class 9 Previous Year Question Papers.

The science students of the UP Board study chemistry, physics, and/or biology. Students must be aware of UP Board Chemistry Class 9 Previous Year Question Papers 2021, as the syllabus has been reduced by 30% for the academic year 2021-2022. They must remain updated with Uttar Pradesh Board Chemistry Class 9 Previous Year Question Papers 2021.

The chemistry unit includes the following chapters: “Matter,” “Nature of Matter,” “Atoms & Molecules,” and “Structure of Atoms,” from which a few sub-topics and definitions have got removed from the syllabus of 2021-2022. In chemistry, kindly know that both theory and practical exams are vital for scoring high.

The pattern of class 9 chemistry questions in the UP Board

The UP Board follows the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) textbooks. It has decided to include the NCERT syllabus for class 9 for the new academic session 2021-2022. The following table is based on the model question paper of last year. It indicates the pattern of questions for the Class 9 Chemistry exam in the UP Board.

The UP Board class 9 chemistry question paper gets divided into multiple sections. The second section, Section B, consists of 4 questions. The first question is subdivided into three multiple-choice type questions, each carrying one mark. Each MCQ contains four options, of which one correct option has to get selected. The next three questions carry two(2) marks each. These are the short answer type questions, and all three of them are compulsory. The next question gets subdivided into two(2) parts, with each carrying two(2) marks. Three questions are provided, out of which two questions need to get answered. The final question from chemistry is a long answer-type question, carrying seven(7) marks. This question is also further split into subparts.

Weightage of marks for each chapter

The science textbook of UP Board Class 9 gets organized into five units, namely, Unit I: Matter- Its Nature and Behaviour, Unit II: Organization in the Living World, Unit III: Motion, Force and Work, Unit IV: Our Environment, and Unit V: Food Production. Unit I contains Chemistry chapters, Units II, IV, and V consist of Biology chapters, and Unit III comprises Physics chapters. The following table focuses on the probable marks distribution pattern of the Chemistry part, which carries 20 marks out of 70. What could be the probable weightage of marks from each chapter of Chemistry gets tabulated below:

UnitChapterWeightage of Marks
Unit I: Matter- Its Nature and Behaviour1. Matter in Our Surroundings3-4
2. Is Matter Around Us Pure?4-5
3. Atoms and Molecules5-7
4. Structure of Atoms5-7

The total number of chapters belonging to Unit I (Chemistry) is four. The chapters “Atoms & Molecules” and “Structure of Atoms” carry the maximum weightage. Students may expect at least five to seven marks questions from the abovementioned chapters. From the chapter “Matter in Our Surroundings,” students may expect questions of three to four marks. From the chapter “Is Matter Around Us Pure?” questions carrying four to five marks may get asked. As all the questions remain compulsory, it gets advised to read all the chapters. It would increase the chances of scoring high marks.

Approach to solve each section of UP Board question paper

The first question type of UP Board Chemistry Class 9 Question Papers is “Multiple-Choice Question.” Each of these MCQs carries one(1) mark, and students have to pick any one correct option out of the given four. MCQs possess a high possibility of scoring full marks within less time if the correct answer is known. If the correct answer is not known, it is suggested to the students to re-read the question thoroughly. MCQs require thorough reading and understanding. It would help students to pick out the most unlikely options. It would, in turn, narrow down the options for correct answers to a few, making it easier to select the correct option.

The next set of questions consists of short answer type questions, each carrying two marks. These questions require brief answers. Most of the time, these questions ask for definitions of various terms or explanations of any law. Students need to be very precise while answering them. As they carry only two marks each, there is no point in writing too much for answering these questions. Examiners prefer to-the-point answers for such questions. It is advised to read the textbook thoroughly and prepare notes. The notes should contain points, helping the student to cover short and long answer-type questions from the same topic.

The last question type is the long answer type question, and it carries seven marks. There is only one long answer-type question. This question of seven marks can get subdivided into several parts. So it becomes easier for the students to answer the question.

The science paper contains 100 marks in total. The theory portion covers 70 marks, and the practical evaluation covers 30 marks. These 30 marks further get divided into two parts: 1) project work, which carries 15 marks, in which students need to prepare any three projects from a given list of 15 options; and 2) the remaining 15 marks are evaluated on practical experiments, viva-voce, and sessional work.
