Chemistry for class 12 under the Uttar Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education consists of 13 chapters. Each chapter will carry varying marks in the exam. Some chapters like Solutions, p-block Elements, Aldehydes, Ketones, Carboxylic Acids, Coordination Compounds and Biomolecules are more critical than others. Hence, they have more marks associated with them.

However, that, in no way, means you can completely ignore the other chapters. The table also shows the prominence of other chapters that you will be studying as part of the syllabus, including Solid State, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Alcohol, Phenols and Ethers.

So, students should make sure that they focus on the chapters having the highest weightage or those chapters that carry the highest marks in the exams. However, they must not neglect the other chapters as there can be surprise questions.

Revised UP Board Chemistry Class 12 Practical Syllabus 2021

Apart from theory, Chemistry for class 12 under the Uttar Pradesh Board of Intermediate Education also has a practical aspect. As per the revised syllabus for class 12 Chemistry under the UP Board, you have two parts for the practicals. The first part deals with the External Evaluation while the second part involves Internal Evaluation.

External Evaluation

Serial NumberExperimentMarks
1.       Qualitative Analysis (Salt Analysis)4
2.       Volumetric Analysis (Simple Titration)4
3.       Content-based Experiment3
4.       Viva4

There are three experiments that you need to conduct as part of the External Evaluation. In the first experiment, you must complete a Qualitative Analysis on any given salt.

Qualitative Analysis

In the Qualitative Analysis, students will get a salt compound. They must determine a cation and an anion for this salt compound. Note that cations are positively charged particles of compounds while Anions are the negatively charged ones.

Volumetric Analysis

In the second experiment, students must conduct a volumetric analysis of a given compound by performing a simple titration. The second experiment consists of two parts:

1. Preparation of Inorganic Compounds

Here, students must prepare the double salts of Ferrous Ammonium Sulphate of Potash Alum and Potassium Ferric Oxalate.

2. Test Functional Groups in Organic Compounds

In this experiment, students test for unsaturated alcoholic, phenolic, aldehydic, ketonic, carboxylic and amino groups.

Determining the Characteristics of Carbohydrates, Fats and Proteins in Foods

Students must also determine the concentration of KMnO4 by performing a titration of the given compound against oxalic acid and ferrous ammonium sulfate.

Internal Evaluation

Serial NumberExperimentMarks
1.       Project and Viva8
2.       Class Record4
3.       Content-based Experiment3

You must complete and submit a project and viva or oral exam as part of the Internal Evaluation process. Note that the Project and Viva together carry eight marks. When experimenting, students are required to record the outcomes in separate books, for which they will get four points.

In addition to the Project and Viva and Class Record, students must also conduct a content-based experiment. A few projects and experiments that a student can do as part of the Internal Evaluation include:

  • Study the presence of different oxalate ions in guava.
  • Study the amount of casein in different samples.
  • Prepare soybean milk and compare it with natural milk.
  • Study Potassium Bisulphate as a food preservative.
  • Study the digestion process of starch and more.

So, you can conduct any experiment from this list as part of the project that you must submit to get eight marks.
