Solution:

a. The cells would have shrunk under the microscope because the salt solution is hypertonic, forcing water to flow out of the cell and exosmosis to occur.

b. After that, the cell regains its turgidity as it absorbs water and de-plasmolysis happens when it is placed in distilled water.
