Solution:

Because it breaks down the substrate, the respiratory route is thought to be catabolic. The pyruvate is broken down further in the TCA cycle to Acetyl CoA, which can then be synthesised into fatty acid anytime it is needed for fatty acid metabolism or synthesis. Both breakdown and synthesis occur during this cycle.
