The median of the following numbers, arranged in ascending order is 25. Find x. 11, 13, 15, 19, x + 2, x + 4, 30, 35, 39, 46

Solution:

Here n = 10, which is even

Median = 25

So Median = ½ ( n/2 th term + ((n/2)+1)th term)

25 = ½ (( 10/2 )th term + (10/2)+1)th term)

25 = ½ (( 5 )th term + (6)th term)

25 = ½ (x+2 + x+4)

25 = ½ (2x+6)

2x+6 = 25×2

2x+6 = 50

2x = 50-6 = 44

x = 44/2 = 22

Hence the value of x is 22.
