Suggest some of the features of plants that will prevent insect and pest infestation.

Solution:  Morphological features: Various plants have a certain hair-like structure in the stem and other parts of the plants, these features prevent insect pests and Biochemical features which provide resistance to the plants.

The following are some of the characteristics of plants that help to keep insects and pests away:

(a) Hairy leaves are thought to be resistant to pest attacks; for example, jassids avoid cotton and the wheat leaf beetle avoids wheat.

(b) Wheat has a strong stem that protects it from stem sawflies.

(c) Cotton varieties that lack nectar do not attract bollworms.

(d) Maize stem borers are resistant to high aspartic acid, low nitrogen, and sugar content.
