(i) When a body is pushed from its equilibrium position and released, free vibrations occur, whereas forced vibrations are caused by an external periodic force of any frequency.
(ii) In free vibrations, amplitude diminishes with time, but in forced vibrations, amplitude is modest but constant as the force acts.
