State the condition when a body is in (i) static, (ii) dynamic equilibrium. Give one example each of static and dynamic equilibrium.

(i) When the body remains in a condition of rest while being influenced by various forces, it is said to be in static equilibrium.

Example: A book on a table is in a state of static equilibrium.

(ii) When the body continues to be in the same state of motion under the impact of many forces, it is said to be in dynamic equilibrium.

Example: A rain drop travels at a steady speed to the earth’s surface.
