Summary of theory syllabus
All three units of the biology syllabus are essential for class 10 board exams conducted by the MH board. Unit two, “the word of living,” is the unit with the highest weightage because it contains crucial chapters like life processes, control of the living, reproduction in the living, and heredity and evolution. Therefore, this unit is essential for exams. The following critical unit is “pollution,” which deals with the various types of pollution, their sources, and their effects. Finally, the last unit is “striking for a better environment,” which is also essential. It teaches young students about eco-friendly technology, sustainable use of natural resources, law and policies for environmental protection.
Practical syllabus of MH Board Biology Class 10
The MH Board biology for class 10 practical exam weightage is ten marks only. Following is the list of biology experiments.
1. To prepare a temporary mount of a leaf peel to show stomata.
A transparent peel of leaf is cut into small pieces, mounted on a side, and observed under a microscope to see stomata.
2. To show an experiment that light is necessary for photosynthesis.
Photosynthesis is a process performed by plants to produce organic compound glucose from carbon dioxide and water by using the energy of light. This glucose forms polymer starch. It can get demonstrated by covering a leaf with brown paper for 48 hours. Then take this leaf along with an uncovered leaf and boil it in alcohol. Then both the leaves get dipped in iodine solution. The covered leaf will not show any color change, but the uncovered leaf turns blue because of starch.
3. To show experimentally that carbon dioxide goes out during respiration.
Aerobic respiration is a type of respiration in which oxygen breaks down glucose into carbon dioxide, energy, and water. This process can be demonstrated by using a lime water tube experiment. A lime water tube is fitted with cork and exhales into the tube. The lime water will turn milky very soon because of the high carbon dioxide content in the exhaled air.
4. To study
(a) Binary fission in amoeba
Amoeba is a pleomorphic organism that belongs to the Phylum protozoa. This amoeba is the most straightforward animal, and it reproduces by the process of binary fission. Binary fission is when an organism first increases in size and then splits into two individual organisms.
(b) Budding in yeast with the help of prepared slides.
Yeast is unicellular fungi, and it divides by the process of budding. Budding is a process of asexual reproduction in which a new organism develops from an outgrowth.
Summary of the practical syllabus
The practical syllabus of MH board biology class 10 has a weightage of 10 marks. This syllabus includes experiments like the microscopic observation of stomata on the leaf, demonstration of the necessity of light in the process of photosynthesis, demonstration of the release of carbon dioxide during respiration, a study of binary fission, and budding of yeast with the help of prepared slide. Performing experiments in the laboratory will help the students to understand theory completely. It will also increase the interest of students in opting for science in their higher studies. Students will also learn to use instruments like a microscope.
