The JAC Board (Jharkhand Academic Council) has come up with a restructured and comprehensive syllabus for Class 12 Maths. The syllabus of the subject has been designed keeping in mind the future academic career of the students as well as the board exams. Moreover, the chapters included in the syllabus provide students with sufficient knowledge to tackle any engineering entrance exams.
In this article, we will cover the detailed Jharkhand Board class 12 Maths syllabus for the academic year 2021-22, the evaluation pattern of the board, the importance of each chapter, key insights from those chapters, and some helpful FAQs.
The new syllabus aims to help students become better in understanding the concepts given in the curriculum of Maths. It is a must that students study and analyze the syllabus before they start studying the subject. The subject has two papers with a combined marks of 100. The first is a theoretical paper, and the second would be project work/test.
Paper-I will be an 80 marks theory paper with a 3-hour time restriction.
Paper-II will be a project/test worth 20 marks.
Given below is the chapter and unit-wise distribution of the Class 12 Maths syllabus:

||
10 | Vector Algebra | Some basic concept, Types of vectors, Addition of vectors, Multiplication of vector by a scalar, Product of two vectors
11 | Three Dimensional Geometry | Direction cosines and direction ratios of a line equation in space, Angle between two lines, Shortest distance between two lines, Plane, Co-planarity of two lines, Angle between two planes, Distance of a point from a plane, Angle between a line and a plane
12 | Linear Programming | Linear Programming Problem and its mathematical Formulation
13 | Probability | Conditional Probability, Multiplication Theorem on Probability, Independent Events, Bayes Theorem, Random Variables and its Probability Distributions, Bernoulli Trials and Binomial distribution |
From the above table, it can be said that the syllabus is quite comprehensive and a few chapters are important to study in detail. Especially, chapters such as Matrices, Integrals, Application of Integrals, and Linear Programming should be given more time to study. The rest of the chapters also need attention as per the marks allotted.
It is interesting to note here that many students in the previous years have said they find Maths papers not too difficult but lengthy. Therefore, analyzing the syllabus repeatedly and solving previous year question papers is an intelligent approach to studying Maths. Also, the subject demands a fair amount of practice, an honest effort to gain clarity of concepts, and persistence.
The JAC Board has given the syllabus for two terms – term 1 and term 2.
In the term 1 JAC Board class 12 Maths syllabus, you will have to attempt a theory paper of 40 marks and an internal assessment of 10 marks.
Summary of Theory Syllabus (Term 1)
The theory paper of term 1 will comprise questions from the four units. It will cover relations and functions, inverse trigonometric functions, matrices, determinants, continuity and differentiability, applications of derivatives, and linear programming. The duration of the theory paper is 90 minutes.
Summary of Practical Syllabus (Term 1)
The internal assessment will comprise a periodic test and a set of Mathematical activities of 5 marks each.
Periodic Test for Term 1
The subject teacher will conduct three tests of pen and paper mode during term 1. The test will contain a balanced mix of the set of question types. The question type will be Very Short Answer (VSA), Short Answer (SA), and Long Answer (LA).
Mathematic Activities for Term 1
In the Mathematic activities section, you will have to :
- Perform and maintain an activity file record of Maths Lab activities for term 1
- Attempt an activity and will be followed by a viva-voce in the term 1 assessment.
So, the marks for Term 1 would be distributed as given below :
No. | Units | Marks |
1 | Relations and Functions | 08 |
2 | Algebra | 10 |
3 | Calculus | 17 |
4 | Linear Programming | 05 |
Total Theory | 40 | |
Internal Assessment (Periodic Test + Mathematics Activities) | 10 (5 + 5)
Grand Total | 50 |
In the term 2 JAC Board Class 12 Maths syllabus, you will have to attempt a theory paper of 40 marks and an internal assessment of 10 marks.
Summary of Theory Syllabus (Term 2)
The theory paper of term 2 will comprise questions from the four units. It will cover integrals, applications of the integrals, differential equations, vectors, three-dimensional Geometry, and probability. The duration of the theory paper is 90 minutes.
Summary of Practical Syllabus (Term 2)
The internal assessment will comprise a periodic test and a set of Mathematical activities of 5 marks each.
