From a solid cube of side 7 cm, a conical cavity of height 7 cm and radius 3 cm is hollowed out. Find the volume of the remaining solid.

NCERT Exemplar Class 10 Maths Chapter 12 Ex. 12.3 Question 6

From the figure, we get,

Volume of staying strong = volume of shape – volume of cone

For Cube

Side, a = 7 cm

We realize that,

Volume of 3D shape = a3, where a = side of block

Volume of 3D shape = (7)3 = 343 cm3

For cone

Sweep, r = 3 cm

Tallness, h = 7 cm

Volume of cone \[=\text{ }1/3\text{ }\pi r2h\text{ }=\text{ }1/3\text{ }\pi \left( 3 \right)27\text{ }=\text{ }3\text{ }\times \text{ }\left( 22/7 \right)\text{ }\times \text{ }7\text{ }=\text{ }66\text{ }cm3\]

Volume of staying strong = volume of 3D shape – volume of cone

= 343 – 66

= 277 cm3
