Figure shows a man standing stationary with respect to a horizontal conveyor belt that is accelerating with 1 ms-2. What is the net force on the man? If the coefficient of static friction, between the man’s shoes and the belt is 0.2, up to what acceleration of the belt can the man continue to be stationary relative to the belt? (Mass of the man = 65 kg.)

Here, the conveyor belt’s acceleration is a = 1 ms-2.

s=0.2 is the static friction coefficient.

m = 65 kg m = 65 kg m = 65 kg m = 65 kg m = 65 kg

Ma = 65 x 1 = 65N is the Net Force.

The friction between the belt and the guy is responsible for this net force.

s N = maximum static friction

After then, the guy begins to move in relation to the belt according to the pseudo force.

When static friction is at its highest,

μs N = μs .mg = mamax
amax= μs g = 0.2 x 10 = 2 m/s2
