Explain with the aid of a simple diagram, the transmission of electric power from the generating station to your house.

Solution:

At a power generating station, electric power is generated at 11 kV. From here, the alternating voltage is transmitted to the grid substation, where it is stepped up to 132 kV with the help of a step-up transformer. The signal is subsequently sent to the main substation. The power is stepped down to 33 kV at the main substation and then delivered to the intermediate substation through a step-down transformer. At the intermediate sub-station, a step-down transformer reduces the voltage to 11 kV. It is then transferred to the municipal sub-station, where the voltage is reduced to 220 V and distributed to our homes.
