Explain LED (light emitting diode).

Light emitting diode (LED): B when junction diode bias energy is released at the junction due to recombination of electrons and hole. In case of silicon and germanium diodes, the energy is released in infrared region. In the junction diode made of gallium arsenide or indium phosphide, the energy is released in visible region. Such a junction diode is called light emitting diode.
