Construction:

A rectangular coil ABCD is rapidly rotated between the north and south poles of a powerful horseshoe magnet. A permanent magnet M is utilised. The coil with several twists is made of insulated copper wires. The metal slip rings R1 and R2 join the two ends A and D. Brushes B1 and B2 help make contact between the slide rings. The brushes are attached to the galvanometer to show current flow.

Working:

When the coil ABCD is turned counterclockwise, the AB side moves down and the CD side moves up. This movement induces current flow in the BADC direction. In the first cycle, current flows from B1 to B2. In the second half cycle, AB and CD switch positions, and current flows from B2 to B1.
