Do you observe any soil pollution in your neighbourhood? What efforts will you make for controlling the soil pollution?

Pesticides and fertilisers are the most common contaminants that pollute soil. Because pesticides like DDT are not soluble in water, they remain in the soil for prolonged periods of time, polluting crops and soil. Furthermore, pesticides and insecticides are not biodegradable in nature, and once they enter the food chain, they reach the highest trophic levels, affecting an area’s whole biodiversity.

Soil contamination can be reduced by limiting the use of pesticides and fertilisers and instead relying on manures and compost.
