Lipids are divided into three categories:
A.Simple lipids,
B. compound lipids
C.derivatives.
Simple lipids are made up of an esters of fatty acids
eg: Triglycerol, fats and wax
Compound lipids are made with an additional group which is other than fats and alcohols.
example – phospholipids, glycolipids
When lipids made of hydrocarbon ring and the long chain of hydrocarbons they are known derivatives
Examples -Steroids, Cholesterol.
