Among the ecosystem services are control of floods and soil erosion. How is this achieved by the biotic components of the ecosystem?

The ecosystem consists of two types of substances.

They are the abiotic and the biotic elements. While the abiotic components are air, light, water, temperature, soil, etc., the biotic components are made up of animals, plants, humans.

The role of plants is important in controlling soil erosion and flooding. The roots of the plants are protected and bind the soil particles together, thus preventing the soil layer contaminated with running water or air.

The roots of the plants create an easily accessible soil that allows water to seep into the ground and prevent flooding. This is how plants can prevent soil erosion and other natural disasters such as droughts and floods. They also increase the diversity and fertility of the soil
