Find: f (1), f (–1), f (0), f (2).

 

Answers:

If, x > 0, f (x) = 4x + 1

Substitute, x = 1

f (1) = 4(1) + 1

f (1) = 4 + 1

f (1) = 5

If x < 0, f(x) = 3x – 2

Substitute, x = –1

f (–1) = 3(–1) – 2

f (–1) = –3 – 2

f (–1) = –5

If, x = 0, f(x) = 1

Substitute, x = 0

f (0) = 1

If x > 0, f(x) = 4x + 1

Substitute,  x = 2

f (2) = 4(2) + 1

f (2) = 8 + 1

f (2) = 9

∴ f (1) = 5

f (–1) = –5

f (0) = 1

f (2) = 9.
