Give reason for the following :

Carbonate and sulphide ores are usually converted into oxides during the process of extraction of metals.

Solution: Carbonates are converted to oxides by rapidly heating them in a little amount of air. Calcination is the name for this process. Because metal extraction is easier from oxides than from carbonates or sulphides, carbonate and sulphide ores are frequently transformed into oxides during the extraction process.
